Center for Change was pleased to welcome co-author of “Intuitive Eating: A Revolutionary Program that Works”, Evelyn Tribole, MS, RD to our facility. Her book has had a strong influence on the dietary program here at the Center and has helped establish a non-diet approach that encourages looking towards internal clues (such as hunger/fullness cues and mindful eating) to guide eating habits and food choices.
Recent studies have shown that intuitive eating is associated with aspects of psychological health including optimism, self-esteem, proactive coping, and positive affect. This suggests that intuitive eating is more than just the absence of eating disorder behaviors and that it is actually correlated with higher levels of well-being (Journal of Counseling Psychology, 2006, volume 53, No. 4, pp. 474-485). The Center looks forward to being able to provide further research in the area of intuitive eating and eating disorders.
During her visit to the Center, Evelyn was able to meet with staff as well as some of the clients. The clients were excited to meet her and expressed their gratitude for the effect of Intuitive Eating on their recovery from eating disorders. Evelyn was touched by their sincerity and the impact Intuitive Eating had on their lives. Center for Change is grateful to Evelyn for taking time out of her busy schedule to come visit our facility and to further inspire those whose lives she has already helped alter for the better.
